The National Coalition for Media Freedom Calls for Media Professional Involved in the Presidential Campaigns to Declare it to the Public Opinion

The National Coalition for Media Freedom expresses grave concern at the participation of a number of media representatives in the presidential campaigns, the two candidates locked in the run-off election, without announcing this to the public opinion which raises suspicions about the recruitment and media bias, and some state-owned, for the benefit of any of the candidates.

Coalition calls candidates campaigns officials to respect the ethics of work and assets of the media by announcing the names of journalists who work in these campaigns to the public, and for these journalists to leave their jobs temporarily in the media until the end of the second round of the presidential elections.

As demanded by the coalition, candidates in the run-off should declare a clear position on the future of the Egyptian media, and the nature of policies and procedures that they will take to ensure the freedom and independence of media from any authority in the state.

The coalition in this context would like to reaffirm that it is not acceptable or possible to return once again to the pre-January 25 media and that political forces and the revolutionary sects of the community, working in the audio-visual; written and electronic fields of media would adhere to the need to free the media and its independence from any authority. This is the people and the media requirement from the run-off candidates to include to the list of their commitments to the electorate.
